The Akaalpurakh is the Master of the earth and the skies,

ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿ ਵਜੂਦਿ ਇਨਸੋ ਜਾਣ ॥ ੧ ॥

ज़िंदगी बख़शि वजूदि इनसो जाण ॥ १ ॥

zi(n)dhagee bakhhash vajoodh inaso jaan || 1 ||

He is the one who bestows life to human beings and other living beings. (1)

ਖ਼ਾਕਿ ਰਾਹਸ਼ ਤੂਤੀਯਾਇ ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਮਾਸਤ

ख़ाकि राहश तूतीयाइ चशमि मासत

khhaak raahash tooteeyai chasham maasat

The dust on the path of Waaheguru serves like a collyrium to our eyes.

ਆਬਰੂ ਅਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਇ ਹਰ ਸ਼ਾਹੋ ਗਦਾ ਸਤ ॥ ੨ ॥

आबरू अफ़ज़ाइ हर शाहो गदा सत ॥ २ ॥

aabaroo aphazai har shaaho gadhaa sat || 2 ||

In fact, He is the one who elevates the honor and esteem of every king and every saintly soul. (2)

ਹਰ ਕਿਹ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਦਾਯਮਾ ਦਰ ਯਾਦਿ ਊ

हर किह बाशद दायमा दर यादि ऊ

Anyone who lives his life under a constant remembrance of Akaalpurakh,

ਯਾਦਿ ਹੱਕ ਹਰ ਦਮ ਬਵਦ ਇਰਸ਼ਾਦਿ ਊ ॥ ੩ ॥

यादि हक्क हर दम बवद इरशादि ऊ ॥ ३ ॥

yaadh hak har dham bavadh irashaadh uoo || 3 ||

Will always prompt and motivate others for the meditation of the Almighty. (3)

ਗਰ ਤੂ ਦਰ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਬਾਸ਼ੀ ਮੁਦਾਮ

गर तू दर यादि ख़ुदा बाशी मुदाम

gar too dhar yaadh khhudhaa baashee mudhaam

If you can constantly and always stay imbued in Akaalpurakh's meditation,

ਮੀ ਸ਼ਵੀ ਐ ਜਾਨਿ ਮਨ ਮਰਦਿ ਤਮਾਮ ॥ ੪ ॥

मी शवी ऐ जानि मन मरदि तमाम ॥ ४ ॥

mee shavee aai jaan man maradh tamaam || 4 ||

Then, O my heart and soul! You can become a complete and perfect person. (4)

ਆਫਤਾਬਿ ਹਸਤ ਪਿਨਹਾਣ ਜ਼ੇਰਿ ਅਬਰ

आफताबि हसत पिनहाण ज़ेरि अबर

aafataab hasat pinahaan zer abar

He, the Akaalpurakh, like the sun, is hidden behind the clouds of the material world,

ਬਿਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਅਜ਼ ਅਬਰੋ ਨੁਮਾ ਰੁਖਿ ਹਮਚੂ ਬਦਰ ॥ ੫ ॥

बिगुज़र अज़ अबरो नुमा रुखि हमचू बदर ॥ ५ ॥

biguzar az abaro numaa rukh hamachoo badhar || 5 ||

Goyaa says, "Kindly come out of the clouds and show me Your full-moon-like face. (5)

ਈਣ ਤਨਤ ਅਬਰੇਸਤ ਦਰ ਵੈ ਆਫਤਾਬ

ईण तनत अबरेसत दर वै आफताब

e'een tanat abaresat dhar vai aafataab

This body of yours is like a cloud under which is hidden the Sun (God),

ਯਾਦਿ ਹੱਕ ਮੀਦਾਣ ਹਮੀਣ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਸਵਾਬ ॥ ੬ ॥

यादि हक्क मीदाण हमीण बाशद सवाब ॥ ६ ॥

yaadh hak meedhaan hameen baashadh savaab || 6 ||

Remember to engage yourself in the divine devotion because this is the only purpose (fruit) of this life. (6)

ਹਰਕਿ ਵਾਕਿਫ਼ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਅਜ਼ ਅਸਰਾਰਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ

हरकि वाकिफ़ शुद अज़ असरारि ख़ुदा

harak vaakiph shudh az asaraar khhudhaa

Whosoever has become cognizant of the mysteries of Waaheguru,

ਹਰ ਨਫ਼ਸ ਜੁਜ਼ ਹੱਕ ਨ ਦਾਰਦ ਮੁਦਆ ॥ ੭ ॥

हर नफ़स जुज़ हक्क न दारद मुदआ ॥ ७ ॥

har naphas juz hak na dhaaradh mudhaa || 7 ||

He has no other purpose except to remember Him every moment of his life. (7)

ਕਹ ਚਿਹ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਯਾਦਿ ਆਣ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਨਿ ਪਾਕ

कह चिह बाशद यादि आण यज़दानि पाक

keh cheh baashadh yaadh aan yazadhaan paak

What is the truth? It is the memory of the Almighty that is the stark truth;

ਕੈ ਬਿਦਾਨਦ ਕਦਰਿ ਊ ਹਰ ਮੁਸ਼ਤਿ ਖ਼ਾਕ ॥ ੮ ॥

कै बिदानद कदरि ऊ हर मुशति ख़ाक ॥ ८ ॥

kai bidhaanadh kadhar uoo har mushat khhaak || 8 ||

In fact, how can a fistful of dirt or dust, the human body, appreciate His real value? (8)

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਨੇਕਾਣ ਅਗਰ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਨਸੀਬ

सुहबति नेकाण अगर बाशद नसीब

suhabat nekaan agar baashadh naseeb

If you have the good fortune to have the company and association of the noble persons,

ਦੌਲਤਿ ਜਾਵੀਦ ਯਾਬੀ ਐ ਹਬੀਬ ॥ ੯ ॥

दौलति जावीद याबी ऐ हबीब ॥ ९ ॥

dhaualat jaaveedh yaabee aai habeeb || 9 ||

Then my friend! You would have attained eternal wealth. (9)

ਦੌਲਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤਿ ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਉਸਤ

दौलत अंदर ख़िदमति मरदानि उसत

dhaualat a(n)dhar khhidhamat maradhaan usat

This (God given) wealth is meant to be used in the service of His creations, the people;

ਹਰਿ ਗਦਾ ਓ ਪਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਿ ਉਸਤ ॥ ੧੦ ॥

हरि गदा ओ पादशाह कुरबानि उसत ॥ १० ॥

har gadhaa o paadhashaeh kurabaan usat || 10 ||

Every beggar and emperor is willing to sacrifice himself for it, the true wealth. (10)

ਖ਼ੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਗੀਰ ਐ ਬ੍ਰਾਦਰ ਖ਼ੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ

ख़ूइ शाण गीर ऐ ब्रादर ख़ूइ शाण

khhooi shaan geer aai braadhar khhooi shaan

O brother! You should acquire the traits of those who constantly remember the Beneficent;

ਦਾਯਮਾ ਮੀ ਗਰਦ ਗਿਰਦਿ ਕੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ॥ ੧੧ ॥

दायमा मी गरद गिरदि कूइ शाण ॥ ११ ॥

dhaayamaa mee garadh giradh kooi shaan || 11 ||

And, you should circle around the (street) locality they reside in again and again (so that you may get an opportunity to be blessed with their company.) (11)

ਹਰ ਕਿਹ ਗਿਰਦਿ ਕੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਗਰਦੀਦ ਯਾਫ਼ਤ

हर किह गिरदि कूइ शाण गरदीद याफ़त

har keh giradh kooi shaan garadheedh yaaphat

If anyone keeps going around the streets of these noble souls,

ਦਰ ਦੋ ਆਲਮ ਹਮ ਚੂ ਮਿਹਰੋ ਬਦਰ ਤਾਫ਼ਤ ॥ ੧੨ ॥

दर दो आलम हम चू मिहरो बदर ताफ़त ॥ १२ ॥

dhar dho aalam ham choo miharo badhar taaphat || 12 ||

He would have attained the light and radiance of the sun and the moon in both the worlds. (12)

ਦੌਲਤਿ ਜਾਵੀਦ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਬੰਦਗੀ

दौलति जावीद बाशद बंदगी

dhaualat jaaveedh baashadh ba(n)dhagee

(We must realize) that meditation is an eternal treasure;

ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕੁਨ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕੁਨ ਬੰਦਗੀ ॥ ੧੩ ॥

बंदगी कुन बंदगी कुन बंदगी ॥ १३ ॥

ba(n)dhagee kun ba(n)dhagee kun ba(n)dhagee || 13 ||

Therefore, we should engage ourselves in meditation, worship and prayers before the Almighty. (13)

ਦਰ ਲਿਬਾਸਿ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੁਰਾਹਸਤ

दर लिबासि बंदगी शाही तुराहसत

dhar libaas ba(n)dhagee shaahee turaahasat

The entire kingdom (of the world) is encompassed in the remembrance of (the Naam of) Waaheguru;

ਦੌਲਤੇ ਅਜ਼ ਮਾਹ ਤਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਤੁਰਾਹਸਤ ॥ ੧੪ ॥

दौलते अज़ माह ता माही तुराहसत ॥ १४ ॥

dhaualate az maeh taa maahee turaahasat || 14 ||

And, it is only His realm extending from the moon to the sun. (14)

ਹਰ ਕਿਹ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਅਜ਼ੂ ਨਾਦਾਣ ਬਵਦ

हर किह ग़ाफ़िल शुद अज़ू नादाण बवद

har keh g(h)aaphil shudh azoo naadhaan bavadh

Anyone who is oblivious and unmindful of (the existence of) Akaalpurakh, consider him as an idiot;

ਗਰ ਗਦਾ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਵਗਰ ਸੁਲਤਾਣ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੫ ॥

गर गदा बाशद वगर सुलताण बवद ॥ १५ ॥

gar gadhaa baashadh vagar sulataan bavadh || 15 ||

No matter whether he is a beggar or the emperor king. (15)

ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਮੌਲਾ ਅਜ਼ ਹਮਾ ਬਾਲਾ ਤਰ ਅਸਤ

शौकि मौला अज़ हमा बाला तर असत

shauak maualaa az hamaa baalaa tar asat

The love of God is the loftiest of all the traits for us,

ਸਾਯਾਇ ਊ ਬਰ ਸਰਿ ਮਾ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਅਸਤ ॥ ੧੬ ॥

सायाइ ऊ बर सरि मा अफ़सर असत ॥ १६ ॥

saayai uoo bar sar maa aphasar asat || 16 ||

And His shadow (on our heads) is like a tiara on our heads. (16)

ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਮੌਲਾ ਮਾਅਨੀਏ ਜ਼ਿਕਰਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

शौकि मौला माअनीए ज़िकरि ख़ुदा-सत

shauak maualaa maane'ee zikar khhudhaa-sat

Devotion for Akaalpurakh is considered as Aremembrance of Him",

ਕਾਣ ਤਲਿਸਮਿ ਚਸ਼ਮ ਮਾ ਰਾ ਕੀਮੀਆ ਸਤ ॥ ੧੭ ॥

काण तलिसमि चशम मा रा कीमीआ सत ॥ १७ ॥

kaan talisam chasham maa raa keemeeaa sat || 17 ||

Because, his enchanting glance (towards us) is like a healing medicine for all of us. (17)

ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਮੌਲਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀਇ ਜਾਨਿ ਮਾ-ਸਤ

शौकि मौला ज़िंदगीइ जानि मा-सत

shauak maualaa zi(n)dhageei jaan maa-sat

The love of Waaheguru is the life of our heart and soul,

ਜ਼ਿਕਰਿ ਊ ਸਰਮਾਯਾਇ ਈਮਾਨਿ ਮਾ-ਸਤ ॥ ੧੮ ॥

ज़िकरि ऊ सरमायाइ ईमानि मा-सत ॥ १८ ॥

zikar uoo saramaayai ieemaan maa-sat || 18 ||

And, meditation and remembrance of His Naam are the principle assets of our faith and religion. (18)

ਰੂਜ਼ਿ ਜੁਮਆ ਮੋਮਨਾਨਿ ਪਾਕਬਾਜ਼

रूज़ि जुमआ मोमनानि पाकबाज़

rooz jumaa momanaan paakabaaz

Chaste and pious minded Muslims

ਗਿਰਦ ਮੀ ਆਇੰਦ ਅਜ਼ ਬਹਿਰਿ ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ॥ ੧੯ ॥

गिरद मी आइंद अज़ बहिरि निमाज़ ॥ १९ ॥

giradh mee aai(n)dh az bahir nimaaz || 19 ||

Get together on Friday for their religious prayers. (19)

ਹਮਚੁਨਾਣ ਦਰ ਮਜ਼ਹਬਿ ਮਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ

हमचुनाण दर मज़हबि मा साध संग

hamachunaan dhar mazahab maa saadh sa(n)g

In the same way, God's devotees in my religion come together in congregations of pious saints,

ਕਜ਼ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਬਾ-ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾਰੰਦ ਰੰਗ ॥ ੨੦ ॥

कज़ मुहब्बत बा-ख़ुदा दारंद रंग ॥ २० ॥

kaz muhabat baa-khhudhaa dhaara(n)dh ra(n)g || 20 ||

And have pleasant time getting elated in their love for Akaalpurakh. (20)

ਗਿਰਦ ਮੀ ਆਇੰਦ ਦਰ ਮਾਹੇ ਦੋ ਬਾਰ

गिरद मी आइंद दर माहे दो बार

giradh mee aai(n)dh dhar maahe dho baar

They assemble at least twice a month

ਬਹਿਰਿ ਜ਼ਿਕਰਿ ਖ਼ਾਸਾਇ ਪਰਵਰਦਗਾਰ ॥ ੨੧ ॥

बहिरि ज़िकरि ख़ासाइ परवरदगार ॥ २१ ॥

bahir zikar khhaasai paravaradhagaar || 21 ||

In special remembrance of the Almighty. (21)

ਆਣ ਹਜੂਮਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਿ ਅਜ਼ ਬਹਿਰਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

आण हजूमि ख़ुश कि अज़ बहिरि ख़ुदा-सत

aan hajoom khhush k az bahir khhudhaa-sat

That assembly is blessed that is held only for remembering Akaalpurakh;

ਆਣ ਹਜੂਮਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਿ ਅਜ਼ ਦਫ਼ਾਇ ਬਲਾ-ਸਤ ॥ ੨੨ ॥

आण हजूमि ख़ुश कि अज़ दफ़ाइ बला-सत ॥ २२ ॥

aan hajoom khhush k az dhaphai balaa-sat || 22 ||

That assembly is blessed that is held to dispel all our mental and physical troubles. (22)

ਆਣ ਹਜੂਮਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਿ ਅਜ਼ ਬਹਿਰਿ ਯਾਦਿ ਊ-ਸਤ

आण हजूमि ख़ुश कि अज़ बहिरि यादि ऊ-सत

aan hajoom khhush k az bahir yaadh uoo-sat

That congregation is fortunate that is held in commemoration of Waaheguru's (Naam);

ਆਣ ਹਜੂਮਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਬੁਨਿਆਦਿ ਊ-ਸਤ ॥ ੨੩ ॥

आण हजूमि ख़ुश कि हक्क बुनिआदि ऊ-सत ॥ २३ ॥

aan hajoom khhush k hak buniaadh uoo-sat || 23 ||

That congregation is blessed that has its foundations only on Truth. (23)

ਆਣ ਹਜੂਮਿ ਬਦ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨੀ ਬਵਦ

आण हजूमि बद कि शैतानी बवद

aan hajoom badh k shaitaanee bavadh

That group of persons is evil and dissolute where Satan/Devil is playing its role;

ਆਕਬਤ ਅਜ਼ ਵੈ ਪਸ਼ੇਮਾਨੀ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੨੪ ॥

आकबत अज़ वै पशेमानी बवद ॥ २४ ॥

aakabat az vai pashemaanee bavadh || 24 ||

Such a group is defiled that lends itself to future repentance and pennitence. (24)

ਈਣ ਜਹਾਨੋ ਆਣ ਜਹਾਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਾਨਾ ਈਸਤ

ईण जहानो आण जहाण अफ़साना ईसत

e'een jahaano aan jahaan aphasaanaa ieesat

The story of both the worlds, this and the next, is a fable,

ਈਨੋ ਆਣ ਅਜ਼ ਖ਼ਿਰਮਨਸ਼ ਯੱਕ ਦਾਨਾ ਈਸਤ ॥ ੨੫ ॥

ईनो आण अज़ ख़िरमनश यक्क दाना ईसत ॥ २५ ॥

e'eeno aan az khhiramanash yak dhaanaa ieesat || 25 ||

Because, these two are just a grain out of Akaalpurakh's total heaps of produce. (25)

ਈਣ ਜਹਾਨੋ ਆਣ ਜਹਾਣ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਨਿ ਹੱਕ

ईण जहानो आण जहाण फ़ुरमानि हक्क

e'een jahaano aan jahaan phuramaan hak

These two worlds are under the (constant) command of the true Waaheguru,

ਔਲੀਆ ਓ ਅਬੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਿ ਹੱਕ ॥ ੨੬ ॥

औलीआ ओ अबीआ कुरबानि हक्क ॥ २६ ॥

aaualeeaa o abeeaa kurabaan hak || 26 ||

And, the divine messengers and prophets are willing to sacrifice themselves for Him. (26)

ਹਰ ਕਿ ਦਰ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਬਵਦ

हर कि दर यादि ख़ुदा काइम बवद

har k dhar yaadh khhudhaa kaim bavadh

Any one who become firm practitioner of meditation of (Naam of) Akaalpurakh

ਤਾ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਬਵਦ ਦਾਇਮ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੨੭ ॥

ता ख़ुदा काइम बवद दाइम बवद ॥ २७ ॥

taa khhudhaa kaim bavadh dhaim bavadh || 27 ||

As long as the Entity exists, he, too, becomes immortal. (27)

ਈਣ ਦੋ ਆਲਮ ਜ਼ੱਰਾਇ ਅਜ਼ ਨੂਰਿ ਊਸਤ

ईण दो आलम ज़र्राइ अज़ नूरि ऊसत

e'een dho aalam zarai az noor uoosat

Both these worlds are just a ray of the radiance and splendor of Waaheguru,

ਮਿਹਰੋ ਮਾਹ ਮਸ਼ਅਲ-ਕਸ਼ਿ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਿ ਊਸਤ ॥ ੨੮ ॥

मिहरो माह मशअल-कशि मज़दूरि ऊसत ॥ २८ ॥

To be careless, negligent, sluggish and apathetic of the memory of Akaalpurakh even for a moment is equivalent to hundreds of deaths.

Waaheguru makes him firm (believer) in contentment and faith. (32)

In fact, someone cognizant of Akaalpurakh will not be derelict even for a moment in remembering Him. (34)

Therefore, we should meditate on His Naam; in fact, we should only remember Him. (47)

varanaa aakhhir mee-kashee sharami(n)dhagee || 48 ||

Otherwise, you will, ultimately, be chagrined and humiliated. (48)

And humility is the cure for everyone's maladies. (50)

How can the lofty-headed have any craving or cupidity for those lying in lower valleys (slopes)? (51)

This vanity is a dirty and soiled drop;

That has made an abode for itself in your body of fist-full dirt. (52)

This self-ego is the trait and characteristic of your stupidity;

And, worship of truth is the asset of your faith and belief. (53)

Your body is composed of wind, dust and fire;

Your abode-like mind has been radiant with the Divine splendor,

You were just a flower (not long ago), now you are a full fledged garden embellished with scores and scores of flowers. (55)

हमचू मुरग़ि मकुद्दसि दर वै तैर कुन ॥ ५६ ॥

hamachoo murag(h) makudhas dhar vai tair kun || 56 ||

And, soar around like a chaste and innocent bird in it. (56)

sadh hazaaraan khhuladh a(n)dhar g(h)oshaa ash

There are millions of heavenly gardens in His each and every nook and corner,

har dho aalam dhaanai az khhoshaa ash || 57 ||

Both these worlds are like just a grain off the ear of His corn. (57)

The feed of that pious bird is Akaalpurkah's remembrance,

yaadh uoo haan yaadh uoo haan yaadh uoo || 58 ||

His remembrance, only His meditation, yes only His memory. (58)

ਹਰ ਕਸੇ ਕੂ ਮਾਇਲਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

हर कसे कू माइलि ख़ुदा-सत

Anyone who is (sincerely) devoted to His meditation;

ਖ਼ਾਕਿ ਰਾਹਸ਼ ਤੂਤਿਆਇ ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਮਾ-ਸਤ ॥ ੫੯ ॥

ख़ाकि राहश तूतिआइ चशमि मा-सत ॥ ५९ ॥

khhaak raahash tootiaai chasham maa-sat || 59 ||

The dust of his path is like a collyrium for our eyes. (59)

If you can get attuned to the meditation of Waaheguru,

ਹੱਲਿ ਹਰ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਤੁਰਾ ਐ ਦਿਲ ਸ਼ਵਦ ॥ ੬੦ ॥

हल्लि हर मुशकिल तुरा ऐ दिल शवद ॥ ६० ॥

hal har mushakil turaa aai dhil shavadh || 60 ||

Then O mind of mine! You should understand that all your difficulties have been solved (solutions to all the problems have been found). (60)

hal har mushakil hameen yaadh khhudhaa-sat

The only solution to every predicament is remembering Akaalpurakh;

ਹਰ ਕਿ ਯਾਦਿ ਹੱਕ ਕੁਨਦ ਜ਼ਾਤਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ ॥ ੬੧ ॥

हर कि यादि हक्क कुनद ज़ाति ख़ुदा-सत ॥ ६१ ॥

har k yaadh hak kunadh zaat khhudhaa-sat || 61 ||

In fact, a rememberer of (the Naam of) Waaheguru conforms himself into the same category as the Waaheguru Himself. (61)

ਦਰ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਹੱਕ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰ ਨੀਸਤ

दर हकीकत ग़ैर हक्क मनज़ूर नीसत

dhar hakeekat g(h)air hak manazoor neesat

In reality, nothing but the Lord Himself is the acceptable Entity;

ਕੀਸਤ ਐ ਜਾਨ ਕੂ ਸਰਾਪਾ ਨੂਰ ਨੀਸਤ ॥ ੬੨ ॥

keesat aai jaan koo saraapaa noor neesat || 62 ||

O my mind! Who is such a person that does not reflect the radiance of Akaalpurakh from head to toes? (62)

O human being! You are one of the rays of the Divine glow, and become engulfed in divine radiance from head to toes,

ਬਿਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਅਜ਼ ਗ਼ਮ ਦਾਇਮਾ ਮਸਰੂਰ ਬਾਸ਼ ॥ ੬੩ ॥

बिगुज़र अज़ ग़म दाइमा मसरूर बाश ॥ ६३ ॥

biguzar az g(h)m dhaimaa masaroor baash || 63 ||

Get rid of any worries or suspicions, and get inebriated permanently in His memory. (63)

How long would you be in the never-ending captivity of anxieties?

बिगुज़र अज़ ग़म यादि हक्क कुन व-सलाम ॥ ६४ ॥

biguzar az g(h)m yaadh hak kun va-salaam || 64 ||

Get rid of sorrows and griefs; remember the Lord and stay safe and secure for ever. (64)

ਗ਼ਮ ਚਿਹ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਗ਼ਫਲਤ ਅਜ਼ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ

g(h)m cheh baashadh g(h)falat az yaadh khhudhaa

What is distress and depression? It is the negligence of His meditation;

ਚੀਸਤ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਯਾਦਿ ਆਣ ਬੇ-ਮਿਨਤਹਾ ॥ ੬੫ ॥

cheesat shaadhee yaadh aan be-minatahaa || 65 ||

What is pleasure and joy? It is the remembrance of the Almighty of infinite dimensions. (65)

Do you know the meaning of the Illimitable?

ਆਣ ਕਿ ਊ ਨਾਇਦ ਬਕੈਦਿ ਮਰਗੋ ਜ਼ੀਸਤ ॥ ੬੬ ॥

आण कि ऊ नाइद बकैदि मरगो ज़ीसत ॥ ६६ ॥

aan k uoo naidh bakaidh marago zeesat || 66 ||

It is the Boundless, the Akaalpurakh, who is not subjected to births and deaths. (66)

ਦਰ ਸਰਿ ਹਰ ਮਰਦੋ ਜ਼ਨ ਸੌਦਾਇ ਊ-ਸਤ

Every man and woman in his/her head is overwhelmed with His ardor;

ਦਰ ਦੋ ਆਲਮ ਸ਼ੋਰਸ਼ੇ ਗ਼ੌਗ਼ਾਇ ਊ-ਸਤ ॥ ੬੭ ॥

दर दो आलम शोरशे ग़ौग़ाइ ऊ-सत ॥ ६७ ॥

dhar dho aalam shorashe g(h)auag(h)ai uoo-sat || 67 ||

All this excitement in both the worlds is His creation. (67)

ਮੰਜ਼ਲਿ ਊ ਬਰ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨਿ ਔਲੀਆ-ਸਤ

मंज़लि ऊ बर ज़ुबानि औलीआ-सत

ma(n)zal uoo bar zubaan aaualeeaa-sat

It is the tongue of the saints and noble souls where He has made His abode;

ਰੂਜ਼ੇ ਸ਼ਬ ਕਾਣਦਰ ਦਿਲਸ਼ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ ॥ ੬੮ ॥

रूज़े शब काणदर दिलश यादि ख़ुदा-सत ॥ ६८ ॥

rooze shab kaanadhar dhilash yaadh khhudhaa-sat || 68 ||

Or He abides in their hearts where there is constant remembrance of Him day and night. (68)

ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਊ ਬਰ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਹਰਗ਼ਿਜ਼ ਵਾ ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਦ

चशमि ऊ बर ग़ैर हरग़िज़ वा ना-शुद

chasham uoo bar g(h)air harag(h)iz vaa naa-shudh

The eyes of a meditator never open up to see anyone or anything else but Him;

ਕਤਰਾਇ ਊ ਜੁਜ਼ ਸੂਇ ਦਰਿਆ ਨਭਸ਼ੁਦ ॥ ੬੯ ॥

कतराइ ऊ जुज़ सूइ दरिआ नभशुद ॥ ६९ ॥

katarai uoo juz sooi dhariaa nabhashudh || 69 ||

And, his drop (of water), every breath, does not flow towards any other place except towards the vast ocean (the Akaalpurakh). (69)

ਬੰਦਾਇ ਊ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹਰ ਦੋ ਸਰਾ

बंदाइ ऊ साहिब हर दो सरा

A man of God is the master of both the worlds;

ਕੂ ਨ ਬੀਨਦ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਨਕਸ਼ਿ ਕਿਬਰੀਆ ॥ ੭੦ ॥

कू न बीनद ग़ैर नकशि किबरीआ ॥ ७० ॥

koo na beenadh g(h)air nakash kibareeaa || 70 ||

Because, he does not see anything else other than the Great Embodiment of Truth. (70)

ਈਣ ਜਹਾਨੋ ਆਣ ਜਹਾਣ ਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਬਵਦ

ईण जहानो आण जहाण फ़ानी बवद

e'een jahaano aan jahaan phaanee bavadh

This and the next world both are perishable;

ਗ਼ੈਰਿ ਯਾਦਸ਼ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਨਾਦਾਨੀ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੭੧ ॥

ग़ैरि यादश जुमला नादानी बवद ॥ ७१ ॥

g(h)air yaadhash jumalaa naadhaanee bavadh || 71 ||

Everything else other than His remembrance is a complete foolishness. (71)

ਯਾਦ ਕੁਨ ਹਾਣ ਤਾਣ ਤਵਾਨੀ ਯਾਦ ਕੁਨ

याद कुन हाण ताण तवानी याद कुन

yaadh kun haan taan tavaanee yaadh kun

Remember Akaalpurakh: You should remember Him as much as you can;

ਖ਼ਾਨਾ ਰਾ ਅਜ਼ ਯਾਦਿ ਹੱਕ ਆਬਾਦ ਕੁਨ ॥ ੭੨ ॥

ख़ाना रा अज़ यादि हक्क आबाद कुन ॥ ७२ ॥

khhaanaa raa az yaadh hak aabaadh kun || 72 ||

And, populate your home-like heart/mind with His constant remembrance. (72)

ਈਣ ਦਿਲਿ ਤੂ ਖ਼ਾਨਾਇ ਹੱਕ ਬੂਦਾ ਅਸਤ

ईण दिलि तू ख़ानाइ हक्क बूदा असत

e'een dhil too khhaanai hak boodhaa asat

Your heart/mind is nothing but the abode of God;

ਮਨ ਕਿਹ ਗੋਇਮ ਹੱਕ ਚੁਨੀਣ ਫ਼ਰਮੂਦਾ ਅਸਤ ॥ ੭੩ ॥

मन किह गोइम हक्क चुनीण फ़रमूदा असत ॥ ७३ ॥

man keh goim hak chuneen pharamoodhaa asat || 73 ||

What can I say! This is what is the edict of God Himself (73)

ਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਾ ਤੂ ਹਮਨਸ਼ੀਨੋ ਹਮ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਣ

शाह बा तू हमनशीनो हम ज़ुबाण

shaeh baa too hamanasheeno ham zubaan

Your (true) companion and constantly affirming your viewpoint is the King of the world, the Akaalpurakh;

ਤੂ ਬ-ਸੂਇ ਹਰ ਕਸੋ ਨਾਕਸ ਦਵਾਣ ॥ ੭੪ ॥

तू ब-सूइ हर कसो नाकस दवाण ॥ ७४ ॥

too ba-sooi har kaso naakas dhavaan || 74 ||

But, you keep running after every person for having your desires fulfilled. (74)

ਵਾਇ ਤੂ ਬਰ ਜਾਨਿ ਤੂ ਅਹਿਵਾਲਿ ਤੂ

वाइ तू बर जानि तू अहिवालि तू

Goyaa says, "I feel sorry for you, for your life and for your state of mind;

ਵਾਇ ਬਰ ਈਣ ਗ਼ਫਲਤੋ ਅਫ਼ਆਲਿ ਤੂ ॥ ੭੫ ॥

वाइ बर ईण ग़फलतो अफ़आलि तू ॥ ७५ ॥

vai bar ieen g(h)falato aphaal too || 75 ||

I feel sorry for your negligence (for not remembering Him) and for the conduct of your life. (75)

ਹਰ ਕਸੇ ਕੂ ਤਾਲਿਬਿ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਦ

हर कसे कू तालिबि दीदार शुद

Anyone who is desirous and anxious to get a glimpse of Him,

ਪੇਸ਼ਿ ਚਸ਼ਮਸ਼ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਨਕਸ਼ਿ ਯਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਦ ॥ ੭੬ ॥

पेशि चशमश जुमला नकशि यार शुद ॥ ७६ ॥

pesh chashamash jumalaa nakash yaar shudh || 76 ||

In his view, every visible and living thing conforms into His own image. (76)

ਦਰਮਿਆਨਿ ਨਕਸ਼ ਨੱਕਾਸ਼ ਅਸਤੋ ਬਸ

दरमिआनि नकश नक्काश असतो बस

dharamiaan nakash nakaash asato bas

It is the same Artist that sparkles Himself in every portrait,

ਈਂ ਸਖ਼ੁਨ ਰਾ ਦਰ ਨਯਾਬਦ ਬੂਅਲ-ਹਵਸ ॥ ੭੭ ॥

ईं सख़ुन रा दर नयाबद बूअल-हवस ॥ ७७ ॥

e'ee(n) sakhhun raa dhar nayaabadh booala-havas || 77 ||

However, this mystery cannot be understood by the human beings. (77)

ਗਰ ਤੂ ਮੀਖ਼ਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਿ ਇਸ਼ਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਸਬਕ

gar too meekhhaanee z ishak hak sabak

ऐ बरादर यादि हक्क दानी कि चीसत

O brother! Do you know how to define "remembrance of Waaheguru"?

ਅੰਦਰੂਨਿ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਦਿਲਹਾਇ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਸਤ ॥ ੭੯ ॥

अंदरूनि जुमला दिलहाइ जाइ कीसत ॥ ७९ ॥

a(n)dharoon jumalaa dhilahai jai keesat || 79 ||

And, who is it who abides in the hearts and minds of everyone ? (79)

ਚੂੰ ਦਰੂਨਿ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਦਿਲਹਾ ਸਾਇ ਊਸਤ

चूँ दरूनि जुमला दिलहा साइ ऊसत

choo(n) dharoon jumalaa dhilahaa sai uoosat

When it is His image that prevails in the hearts of every one,

ਖ਼ਾਨਾਇ ਦਿਲ ਮੰਜ਼ਲੋ ਮਾਵਾਇ ਊਸਤ ॥ ੮੦ ॥

ख़ानाइ दिल मंज़लो मावाइ ऊसत ॥ ८० ॥

khhaanai dhil ma(n)zalo maavai uoosat || 80 ||

That means that the home-like heart is the destination and asylum for Him.(80)

ਚੂੰ ਬਿਦਾਨਿਸਤੀ ਕਿ ਦਰ ਦਿਲਹਾ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

चूँ बिदानिसती कि दर दिलहा ख़ुदा-सत

choo(n) bidhaanisatee k dhar dhilahaa khhudhaa-sat

When you learn that it is the Omnipotent who abides in everyone's heart and mind,

ਪਸ ਤੁਰਾ ਆਦਾਬਿ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਮੁਦਆ-ਸਤ ॥ ੮੧ ॥

पस तुरा आदाबि हर दिल मुदआ-सत ॥ ८१ ॥

pas turaa aadhaab har dhil mudhaa-sat || 81 ||

Then, it should be your principal purpose (of life) to be respectful to everyone's heart. (81)

ਯਾਦਿ ਹੱਕ ਈਨਸਤੋ ਦੀਗਰ ਯਾਦ ਨੀਸਤ

यादि हक्क ईनसतो दीगर याद नीसत

yaadh hak ieenasato dheegar yaadh neesat

This is what is called the "meditation of Waaheguru"; there is no other remembrance,

ਹਰ ਕਿਰਾ ਈਣ ਗ਼ਮ ਨਭਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਸ਼ਾਦ ਨੀਸਤ ॥ ੮੨ ॥

हर किरा ईण ग़म नभबाशद शाद नीसत ॥ ८२ ॥

har kiraa ieen g(h)m nabhabaashadh shaadh neesat || 82 ||

Whosoever is not anxious about this fact, is not a happy soul. (82)

ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਇ ਆਰਿਫ਼ਾਣ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

ज़िंदगी इ आरिफ़ाण यादि ख़ुदा-सत

zi(n)dhagee i aariphaan yaadh khhudhaa-sat

Meditation is (the chief aim of) the whole life of God-enlightened persons;

ਅਜ਼ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੂਰ ਅਸਤ ਹਰ ਕੂ ਖ਼ੁਦ-ਨੁਮਾਸਤ ॥ ੮੩ ॥

अज़ ख़ुदा दूर असत हर कू ख़ुद-नुमासत ॥ ८३ ॥

az khhudhaa dhoor asat har koo khhudha-numaasat || 83 ||

A person who is stuck in his self ego is driven farther and farther away from Waaheguru. (83)

keesat goyaa mushat khhaak besh neesat

O Goyaa! What is your existence in life? It is no more than a handful of dust;

And, even that is not under your control; The body that we claim to own is not under our control either. (84)

Akaalpurakh created seventy two communities,

फ़िरकाइ नाजी अज़ीहाण बर गुज़ीद ॥ ८५ ॥

phirakai naajee azeehaan bar guzeedh || 85 ||

Out of which, He designated the Naajee community as the most elite. (85)

ਫ਼ਿਰਕਾਇ ਨਾਜੀ ਬਿਦਾਣ ਬੇ-ਇਸ਼ਤਬਾਹ

फ़िरकाइ नाजी बिदाण बे-इशतबाह

phirakai naajee bidhaan be-ishatabaah

We should consider the Naajee (who is considered above and beyond the cycles of transmigration) community, without any doubt,

ਹਸਤ ਹਫ਼ਤਾਦੋ ਦੋ ਮਿੱਲਤ ਰਾ ਪਨਾਹ ॥ ੮੬ ॥

hasat haphataadho dho milat raa panaeh || 86 ||

As the shelter for the seventy two clans. (86)

ਮਰਦਮਾਨਸ਼ ਹਰ ਯਕੇ ਪਾਕੀਜ਼ਾ ਤਰ

मरदमानश हर यके पाकीज़ा तर

Every member of this Najee community is sacred;

ਖ਼ੂਬ-ਰੂ ਓ ਖ਼ੂਬ-ਖ਼ੂ ਓ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼-ਸੀਅਰ ॥ ੮੭ ॥

ख़ूब-रू ओ ख़ूब-ख़ू ओ ख़ुश-सीअर ॥ ८७ ॥

khhooba-roo o khhooba-khhoo o khhusha-seear || 87 ||

Beautiful and handsome, well mannered with a noble disposition. (87)

ਪੇਸ਼ਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਜੁਜ਼ ਯਾਦਿ ਹੱਕ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰ ਨੀਸਤ

pesh shaan juz yaadh hak manazoor neesat

To these folks, nothing else but the remembrance of Akaalpurakh is acceptable;

ਗ਼ੈਰ ਹਰਫ਼ਿ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦਸਤੂਰ ਨੀਸਤ ॥ ੮੮ ॥

g(h)air haraph ba(n)dhagee dhasatoor neesat || 88 ||

And, they do not have any tradition or mannerism other than the recitation of the words of prayer. (88)

Utter sweetness oozes out of their words and conversation,

ਬਾਰਦ ਅਜ਼ ਹਰ ਮੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਆਬਿ ਹਯਾਤ ॥ ੮੯ ॥

बारद अज़ हर मूइ शाण आबि हयात ॥ ८९ ॥

baaradh az har mooi shaan aab hayaat || 89 ||

And, divine elixir is showered from every hair of theirs. (89)

ਫ਼ਾਰਿਗ਼ ਅੰਦ ਅਜ਼ ਬੁਗ਼ਜ਼ੋ ਕੀਨਾ ਓ ਜ਼ਿ ਹਸਦ

फ़ारिग़ अंद अज़ बुग़ज़ो कीना ओ ज़ि हसद

phaarig(h) a(n)dh az bug(h)zo keenaa o z hasadh

They are above and beyond any form of jealousy, hostility or enmity;

ਬਰ ਨਮੀ-ਆਇਦ ਅਜ਼ ਏਸ਼ਾਣ ਫ਼ਿਅਲਿ ਬਦ ॥ ੯੦ ॥

बर नमी-आइद अज़ एशाण फ़िअलि बद ॥ ९० ॥

bar namee-aaidh az eshaan phial badh || 90 ||

They never commit any sinful acts. (90)

They extend respect and honor to every one;

muphalase raa saahib dhaualat kuna(n)dh || 91 ||

And, they help poor and needy to become rich and opulent. (91)

They bless the dead souls with divine nectar;

har dhile pazamuradhaa raa jaan meedhiha(n)dh || 92 ||

They bestow new and rejuvenated life to withered and demoralized minds. (92)

ਸਬਜ਼ ਮੀਸਾਜ਼ੰਦ ਚੋਬਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਕ ਰਾ

sabaz meesaaza(n)dh chob khhushak raa

They can transform dry wood into green twigs;

ਬੂਏ ਮੀਬਖਸ਼ੰਦ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਸ਼ਕ ਰਾ ॥ ੯੩ ॥

booe meebakhasha(n)dh ra(n)g mushak raa || 93 ||

They also can convert a stinking odor into scented musk. (93)

jumalaa asharaaph a(n)dh dhar zaato siphaat

All these well-intentioned persons possess noble personal qualities;

तालिबि ज़ात अंद ख़ुद हम आनि ज़ात ॥ ९४ ॥

taalib zaat a(n)dh khhudh ham aan zaat || 94 ||

They are all seekers of Waaheguru's Entity; in fact, they are just like Him (are His image). (94)

ਖ਼ੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਇਲਮੋ ਅਦਬ ਰਾ ਮੁਜ਼ਹਰ ਅਸਤ

khhooi shaan ilamo adhab raa muzahar asat

Learning and literature emerges (spontaneously) from their behavior;

ਰੂਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਜ਼ਿ ਮਿਹਰਿ ਅਨਵਰ ਅਸਤ ॥ ੯੫ ॥

रूइ शाण रौशन ज़ि मिहरि अनवर असत ॥ ९५ ॥

rooi shaan rauashan z mihar anavar asat || 95 ||

And, their faces radiate like the glowing divinely sun. (95)

ਮਿੱਲਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਕੌਮਿ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਣ ਬਵਦ

मिल्लति शाण कौमि मसकीनाण बवद

Their clan consists of a group of humble, meek and gentle persons;

ਹਰ ਦੋ ਆਲਮ ਸ਼ਾਇਕਿ ਈਨਾਣ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੯੬ ॥

har dho aalam shaik ieenaan bavadh || 96 ||

And they have devotees in both the worlds; People in both the worlds believe in them. (96)

ਕੌਮਿ ਮਿਸਕੀਣ ਕੌਮਿ ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

कौमि मिसकीण कौमि मरदानि ख़ुदा-सत

kauam misakeen kauam maradhaan khhudhaa-sat

This group of people is the community of gentle and humble souls, a community of God's men.

ਈਣ ਹਮਾ ਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਵ ਊ ਦਾਇਮ ਬਕਾਸਤ ॥ ੯੭ ॥

ईण हमा फ़ानी व ऊ दाइम बकासत ॥ ९७ ॥

e'een hamaa phaanee v uoo dhaim bakaasat || 97 ||

Every thing that we see is destructible, but Akaalpurakh is the only One that prevails perpetually and is Imperishable. (97)

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਰਾ ਅਕਸੀਰ ਕਰਦ

Their company and association transformed even the dust to an effective cure.

लुतफ़ि शाण बर हर दिले तासीर करद ॥ ९८ ॥

lutaph shaan bar har dhile taaseer karadh || 98 ||

Their blessings effectively impressed every heart. (98)

Anyone who enjoys their company just once even for a moment,

ਰੂਜ਼ਿ ਫ਼ਰਦਾ ਰਾ ਕੁਜਾ ਦਾਰਦ ਗ਼ਮੇਣ ॥ ੯੯ ॥

रूज़ि फ़रदा रा कुजा दारद ग़मेण ॥ ९९ ॥

rooz pharadhaa raa kujaa dhaaradh g(h)men || 99 ||

He, then, does not have to be apprehensive about the day of reckoning. (99)

A person who could not attain much in spite of hundreds of years of life,

सुहबति शाण हमचू ख़ुरशीदश बिताख़त ॥ १०० ॥

suhabat shaan hamachoo khhurasheedhash bitaakhhat || 100 ||

Shone like a sun when he joined the company of these people. (100)

maa k az ihasaan shaan sharami(n)dhaa-em

We are obligated and owe them a debt of gratitude,

ਬੰਦਾਇ ਇਹਸਾਨਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਏਮ ॥ ੧੦੧ ॥

ba(n)dhai ihasaan shaan raa ba(n)dhaa em || 101 ||

We are, in fact, persons/products of their favors and kindness. (101)

ਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਣ ਹਮਚੂ ਮਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ

sadh hazaaraan hamachoo man kurabaan shaan

Millions like me are willing to sacrifice themselves for these nobilities;

ਹਬ ਚਿ ਗੋਇਮ ਕਮ ਬਵਦ ਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਨਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ॥ ੧੦੨ ॥

हब चि गोइम कम बवद दर शानि शाण ॥ १०२ ॥

hab ch goim kam bavadh dhar shaan shaan || 102 ||

No matter how much I say in their honor and praise, it will be inadequate. (102)

shaan shaan beeroo(n) bavadh az guphatagoo

Their honor and appreciation is beyond any words or expression;

ਜਾਮਾਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਪਾਕ ਅਜ਼ ਸ਼ੁਸਤੋ ਸ਼ੂ ॥ ੧੦੩ ॥

जामाइ शाण पाक अज़ शुसतो शू ॥ १०३ ॥

jaamai shaan paak az shusato shoo || 103 ||

The style (attire) of their life is cleaner and chaste than any amount of washing or rinsing. (103)

ਦਾਣ ਯਕੀਣ ਤਾ ਚੰਦ ਈਣ ਦੁਨਿਆ ਬਵਦ

दाण यकीण ता चंद ईण दुनिआ बवद

dhaan yakeen taa cha(n)dh ieen dhuniaa bavadh

Believe me ! How long is this world going to last? Only for a short time;

ਆਖ਼ਰਿਸ਼ ਕਾਰਿ ਤੂ ਬਾ ਮੌਲਾ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੦੪ ॥

aakhharish kaar too baa maualaa bavadh || 104 ||

Ultimately, we have to develop and maintain a relationship with the Almighty. (104)

ਪਸ ਜ਼ ਅੱਵਲ ਕੁਨ ਹਦੀਸਿ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਰਾ

पस ज़ अव्वल कुन हदीसि शाह रा

Now you indulge yourself in the stories and discourses of (that) King, the Waaheguru.

ਪੈਰਵੀ ਕੁਨ ਹਾਦੀਏ ਈਣ ਰਾਹ ਰਾ ॥ ੧੦੫ ॥

पैरवी कुन हादीए ईण राह रा ॥ १०५ ॥

pairavee kun haadhe'ee ieen raeh raa || 105 ||

And, follow the Guide who shows you the direction (of life). (105)

ਤਾ ਤੂ ਹਮ ਯਾਬੀ ਮੁਰਾਦਿ ਉਮਰ ਰਾ

ता तू हम याबी मुरादि उमर रा

So that your life's hopes and ambitions are fulfilled;

ਲਜ਼ਤੇ ਯਾਬੀ ਜ਼ ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਕਿਬਰੀਆ ॥ ੧੦੬ ॥

लज़ते याबी ज़ शौकि किबरीआ ॥ १०६ ॥

lazate yaabee z shauak kibareeaa || 106 ||

And, you can have the pleasure of the savor of the devotion for Akaalpurakh.(106)

ਜਾਹਿਲ ਆਣ-ਜਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ-ਦਿਲ ਮੀਸ਼ਵਦ

जाहिल आण-जा साहिबि-दिल मीशवद

jaahil aana-jaa saahibi-dhil meeshavadh

(With His grace) even s stupid person can become an intellectual and enlightened;

ਗ਼ਰਕਿ ਦਰਅਿਾਓ ਬਸਾਹਿਲ ਮੀਸ਼ਵਦ ॥ ੧੦੭ ॥

ग़रकि दरअिाओ बसाहिल मीशवद ॥ १०७ ॥

g(h)rak dhariaao basaahil meeshavadh || 107 ||

And, a person drowning in deep waters of a river can reach the banks. (107)

ਨਾ ਕਿਸ ਆਣ ਜਾ ਆਰਿਫ਼ ਕਾਮਿਲ ਸ਼ਵਦ

ना किस आण जा आरिफ़ कामिल शवद

An insignificant person can become fully enlightened,

ਯਾਦਿ ਮੌਲਾ ਹਰ ਕਿ ਰਾ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਸ਼ਵਦ ॥ ੧੦੮ ॥

यादि मौला हर कि रा हासिल शवद ॥ १०८ ॥

yaadh maualaa har k raa haasil shavadh || 108 ||

When he engages himself in the remembrance of Waaheguru. (108)

ਈਣ ਅਸਬ ਤਾਜਸਤ ਬਰ ਅਫ਼ਰਾਕਿ ਕਸ

ईण असब ताजसत बर अफ़राकि कस

A person is being adorned, as if, with a crown of learning and honor on his head,

ਆਣ ਕਿ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਨੀਸਤ ਅਜ਼ ਹੱਕ ਯੱਕ ਨਫ਼ਸ ॥ ੧੦੯ ॥

आण कि ग़ाफ़िल नीसत अज़ हक्क यक्क नफ़स ॥ १०९ ॥

aan k g(h)aaphil neesat az hak yak naphas || 109 ||

Who does not become negligent even for one moment in remembering Akaalpurakh. (109)

ਹਰ ਕਸੇ ਰਾ ਨੀਸਤ ਈਣ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਸੀਬ

हर कसे रा नीसत ईण दौलत नसीब

This treasure is not in the lot of everyone;

ਦਰਦਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਰਾ ਨੀਸਤ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਅਜ਼ ਹੱਕ ਤਬੀਬ ॥ ੧੧੦ ॥

दरदि शाण रा नीसत ग़ैर अज़ हक्क तबीब ॥ ११० ॥

dharadh shaan raa neesat g(h)air az hak tabeeb || 110 ||

The cure for their pain is no one else other than the Waaheguru, the doctor. (110)

Remembrance of Akaalpurakh is the cure-all for every malady and pain;

ज़ाण कि दर हर हाल हक्क दारद रवा-सत ॥ १११ ॥

zaan k dhar har haal hak dhaaradh ravaa-sat || 111 ||

In whatever condition or state He keeps us, should be acceptable. (111)

It is the wish and desire of everyone to seek a perfect Guru;

Without such a mentor, no one can reach the Almighty. (112)

There are several paths for the travelers to traverse;

But what they need is the path of the caravan. (113)

They are always alert and prepared for the remembrance of Akaalpurakh;

ख़ेश मनज़ूरो ख़ुदा रा नाज़िर अंद ॥ ११४ ॥

khhesh manazooro khhudhaa raa naazir a(n)dh || 114 ||

They are acceptable to Him and they are His observers, on-lookers and spectators. (114)

kaz kalaamash booi hak aadh ayaan || 115 ||

Whose conversation and Gurbaanee emits the Divine fragrance. (115)

Anyone who comes in front of such persons (Perfect Gurus) in humility like a dust particle,

zoodh garadhadh hamachoo mihar noor baar || 116 ||

He, soon, becomes capable to shower radiance like that of sun. (116)

That life is worth living that, without any delay or excuses,

biguzaradh ieen umar dhar yaadh khhudhaa || 117 ||

Is spent in the memory of the Providence in this lifetime. (117)

To indulge in self-propaganda is the work of stupid people;

hak prasatee zaat ieemaan aamadhaa || 118 ||

While to get engaged in meditation is the characteristic of the faithful. (118)

Negligence of every moment of not remembering Him is like a huge death;

hak nigaeh dhaaradh z shaitaan razeem || 119 ||

May God, with His eye, save us from the Satan of Hell. (119)

aan k roozo shab ba-yaadhash mubatalaa-sat

Anyone who is (constantly) imbued in remembering Him day and night,

ਈਣ ਮਤਾਅ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੁਕਾਨਿ ਔਲੀਆ-ਸਤ ॥ ੧੨੦ ॥

e'een mataa a(n)dhar dhukaan aaualeeaa-sat || 120 ||

(Knows very well that) This wealth, the memory of Akaalpurakh, is available only at the store (congregation) of saintly persons. (120)

bihatar asat az mihataraan ieen jahaan || 121 ||

Is superior than the so called most respectable stalwarts of this world. (121)

ਬਸ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ਼ਾਣ ਕੂ ਫ਼ਿਦਾਇ ਰਾਹਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ

bas bazurag(h)aan koo phidhai raeh shaan

Many wise and experienced persons are enamored and are prepared to make sacrifices on their paths,

ਸੁਰਮਾਇ ਚਸ਼ਮਮ ਜ਼ਿ ਖ਼ਾਕਿ ਰਾਹਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ॥ ੧੨੨ ॥

सुरमाइ चशमम ज़ि ख़ाकि राहि शाण ॥ १२२ ॥

suramai chashamam z khhaak raeh shaan || 122 ||

And, the dust of their paths is like a collyrium for my eyes. (122)

ਹਮਚੁਨੀਣ ਪਿੰਦਾਰ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਰਾ ਐ ਅਜ਼ੀਜ਼

hamachuneen pi(n)dhaar khhudh raa aai azeez

You, too, my dear youngster! Consider yourself just like this,

ਤਾ ਸ਼ਵੀ ਐ ਜਾਨਿ ਮਨ ਮਰਦਿ ਤਮੀਜ਼ ॥ ੧੨੩ ॥

ता शवी ऐ जानि मन मरदि तमीज़ ॥ १२३ ॥

taa shavee aai jaan man maradh tameez || 123 ||

So that, my dear! You, too, can transform yourself into a pious and saintly person. (123)

These masters, the noble souls, have numerous followers and devotees;

ba(n)dhaa raa baa-ba(n)dhagee kaar aamadhaa || 124 ||

The main task assigned to each and every one of us is only to meditate. (124)

ਮਸ ਤੁਰਾ ਬਾਇਦ ਕਿ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤਗਾਰਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ

मस तुरा बाइद कि ख़िदमतगारि शाण

mas turaa baidh k khhidhamatagaar shaan

Therefore, you should become their follower and a devotee;

ਬਾਸ਼ੀ ਓ ਹਰਗਿਜ਼ ਨਭਬਾਸ਼ੀ ਬਾਰਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ॥ ੧੨੫ ॥

बाशी ओ हरगिज़ नभबाशी बारि शाण ॥ १२५ ॥

baashee o haragiz nabhabaashee baar shaan || 125 ||

But you should never be liability for them. (125)

ਗਰਚਿਹ ਯਾਰੀ-ਦਿਹ ਨ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਅਜ਼ ਸਾਲਕੇ-ਸਤ

गरचिह यारी-दिह न ग़ैर अज़ सालके-सत

garacheh yaaree-dheh na g(h)air az saalake-sat

Even though, there is no one else without them to connect us to the Almighty,

ਲੇਕ ਕਰ ਗ਼ੁਫ਼ਤਨ ਚੁਨੀਣ ਐਬੇ ਬਸੇ-ਸਤ ॥ ੧੨੬ ॥

लेक कर ग़ुफ़तन चुनीण ऐबे बसे-सत ॥ १२६ ॥

lek kar g(h)uphatan chuneen aaibe base-sat || 126 ||

Still, for them to make such a claim would be a transgression. (126)

ਜ਼ੱਰਾ ਰਾ ਦੀਦਮ ਕਿ ਖ਼ੁਰਸ਼ੀਦਿ ਜਹਾਣ

zaraa raa dheedham k khhurasheedh jahaan

I realized that even a small particle became the sun for the whole world,

ਸ਼ੁਦ ਜ਼ਿ ਫ਼ੈਜ਼ਿ ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ-ਦਿਲਾਣ ॥ ੧੨੭ ॥

शुद ज़ि फ़ैज़ि सुहबति साहिब-दिलाण ॥ १२७ ॥

shudh z phaiz suhabat saahiba-dhilaan || 127 ||

With the blessings of the association with the saintly persons. (127)

ਕੀਸਤ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ-ਦਿਲ ਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਬਿਸਨਾਸਦਸ਼

कीसत साहिबि-दिल कि हक्क बिसनासदश

keesat saahibi-dhil k hak bisanaasadhash

Who is that person with a great heart who can recognize the Akaalpurakh,

ਕਜ਼ ਲਕਾਇਸ਼ ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਮੀ-ਬਾਰਦਸ਼ ॥ ੧੨੮ ॥

कज़ लकाइश शौकि हक्क मी-बारदश ॥ १२८ ॥

kaz lakaish shauak hak mee-baaradhash || 128 ||

And whose face (constantly) radiates His splendor ? (128)

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦ ਤੁਰਾ

suhabat shaan shauak hak bakhhashadh turaa

The company of such noble souls blesses you with the Devotion for the Lord,

ਅਜ਼ ਕਿਤਾਬਿ ਹੱਕ ਸਬਕ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦ ਤੁਰਾ ॥ ੧੨੯ ॥

अज़ किताबि हक्क सबक बख़शद तुरा ॥ १२९ ॥

az kitaab hak sabak bakhhashadh turaa || 129 ||

And it is their company too that gives you spiritual lessons from the holy book. (129)

ਜ਼ੱਰਾ ਰਾ ਖ਼ੁਰਸ਼ੀਦਿ ਅਨਵਰ ਮੀ-ਕੁਨੰਦ

zaraa raa khhurasheedh anavar mee-kuna(n)dh

They, the noble souls, can transform even a small particles into a sprightly sun;

ਖ਼ਾਕ ਰਾ ਅਜ਼ ਹੱਕ ਮੁਨੱਵਰ ਮੀ-ਕੁਨੰਦ ॥ ੧੩੦ ॥

ख़ाक रा अज़ हक्क मुनव्वर मी-कुनंद ॥ १३० ॥

khhaak raa az hak munavar mee-kuna(n)dh || 130 ||

And, it is them who can sparkle even the common dust into the Light of Truth. (130)

ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਤੂ ਖ਼ਾਕੀ ਵ ਦਰ ਵੈ ਨੂਰਿ ਹੱਕ

चशमि तू ख़ाकी व दर वै नूरि हक्क

chasham too khhaakee v dhar vai noor hak

Even though your eye is made of dust, still it has the Divine radiance,

ਅੰਦਰੂਨਸ਼ ਚਾਰ ਸੂ ਵ ਨਹੁ ਤਬਕ ॥ ੧੩੧ ॥

अंदरूनश चार सू व नहु तबक ॥ १३१ ॥

a(n)dharoonash chaar soo v nahu tabak || 131 ||

It also contains all the four directions, east, west, south and north, and the nine heavens. (131)

ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਬੰਦਗੀਇ ਹੱਕ ਬਵਦ

ख़िदमति शाण बंदगीइ हक्क बवद

Any service performed for them, the saintly persons, is the worship of Waaheguru;

ਕਾਣ ਕਬੂਲਿ ਕਾਦਰਿ ਮੁਤਲਿਕ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੩੨ ॥

काण कबूलि कादरि मुतलिक बवद ॥ १३२ ॥

kaan kabool kaadhar mutalik bavadh || 132 ||

Because they are the ones who are acceptable to the Omnipotent. (132)

ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕੁਨ ਜਾਣ ਕਿ ਊ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਕਬੂਲ

बंदगी कुन जाण कि ऊ बाशद कबूल

ba(n)dhagee kun jaan k uoo baashadh kabool

You, too, should meditate so that you be acceptable before the Akaalpurakh.

ਕਦਰਿ ਊ ਰਾ ਕੈ ਬਿਦਾਨਦ ਹਰ ਜਹੂਲ ॥ ੧੩੩ ॥

कदरि ऊ रा कै बिदानद हर जहूल ॥ १३३ ॥

kadhar uoo raa kai bidhaanadh har jahool || 133 ||

How can any stupid person appreciate His invaluable worth. (133)

ਹਸਤ ਕਾਰਿ ਰੂਜ਼ੋ ਸ਼ਬ ਦਰ ਯਾਦਿ ਊ

हसत कारि रूज़ो शब दर यादि ऊ

hasat kaar roozo shab dhar yaadh uoo

The only task we should be engaged day and night is to remember Him;

ਯੱਕ ਨਫ਼ਸ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਮੀ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਅਜ਼ੂ ॥ ੧੩੪ ॥

यक्क नफ़स ख़ाली नमी बाशद अज़ू ॥ १३४ ॥

yak naphas khhaalee namee baashadh azoo || 134 ||

Not even one moment should be spared without His meditation and prayers. (134)

ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਜ਼ਿ ਦੀਦਾਰਿ ਅੱਲਾਹ

चशमि शाण रौशन ज़ि दीदारि अल्लाह

chasham shaan rauashan z dheedhaar alaah

Their eyes are glistened because of His Divine glimpse,

ਦਰ ਲਿਬਾਸ ਅੰਦਰ-ਗਦਾ ਓ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ॥ ੧੩੫ ॥

दर लिबास अंदर-गदा ओ बादशाह ॥ १३५ ॥

dhar libaas a(n)dhara-gadhaa o baadhashaeh || 135 ||

They may be in the guise of a mendicant, but they are the kings. (135)

ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਆਣ ਕਿ ਊ ਦਾਇਮ ਬਵਦ

बादशाही आण कि ऊ दाइम बवद

baadhashaahee aan k uoo dhaim bavadh

Only that kingdom is considered a real kingdom that lasts for ever,

ਹਮਚੂ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਾਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਕਾਇਮ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੩੬ ॥

हमचू जाति पाकि हक्क काइम बवद ॥ १३६ ॥

hamachoo jaat paak hak kaim bavadh || 136 ||

And, like the pure and chaste Nature of God, should be eternal. (136)

ਰਸਮਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਆਈਨਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ਼ੀ ਬਵਦ

रसमि शाण आईनि दरवेशी बवद

rasam shaan aaieen dharaveshee bavadh

Their custom and tradition is mostly that of mendicants;

ਅਸ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਓ ਬਾਹਮਾ ਖ਼ੇਸੀ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੩੭ ॥

अस ख़ुदा ओ बाहमा ख़ेसी बवद ॥ १३७ ॥

as khhudhaa o baahamaa khhesee bavadh || 137 ||

They are the lineage and the scions of Waaheguru, and they have intimacy and familiarity with all. (137)

ਹਰ ਗਦਾ ਰਾ ਇੱਜ਼ੇ ਜਾਹੇ ਮੀਦਿਹੰਦ

हर गदा रा इज़्ज़े जाहे मीदिहंद

har gadhaa raa ize jaahe meedhiha(n)dh

The Akaalpurakh blesses every ascetic with honor and status;

ਦੌਲਤਿ ਬੇ-ਇਸ਼ਤਬਾਹੀ ਮੀਦਿਹੰਦ ॥ ੧੩੮ ॥

दौलति बे-इशतबाही मीदिहंद ॥ १३८ ॥

dhaualat be-ishatabaahee meedhiha(n)dh || 138 ||

Without any doubt, He also bestows (everyone) with wealth and treasures. (138)

ਨਾਕਸਾਣ ਰਾ ਆਰਿਫ਼ਿ ਕਾਮਿਲ ਕੁਨੰਦ

नाकसाण रा आरिफ़ि कामिल कुनंद

naakasaan raa aariph kaamil kuna(n)dh

They can transform trivial and paltry persons into perfectly knowledgeable ones;

ਬੇ-ਦਿਲਾਣ ਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ-ਦਿਲ ਮੀਕੁਨੰਦ ॥ ੧੩੯ ॥

बे-दिलाण रा साहिबि-दिल मीकुनंद ॥ १३९ ॥

be-dhilaan raa saahibi-dhil meekuna(n)dh || 139 ||

And, the demoralized ones into courageous persons and masters of their destiny. (139)

ख़ुद-प्रसती अज़ मिआण बरदाशतंद

khhudha-prasatee az miaan baradhaashata(n)dh

They eject their vanities from their inner self;

tukhham hak dhar kishat dhilahaa kaashata(n)dh || 140 ||

And, they sow seeds of Truth, the Lord, in the field-like hearts of the people. (140)

They always consider themselves insignificant and lowlier than others;

हरफ़ि हक्क रा रूज़ो शब ख़ानंद शाण ॥ १४१ ॥

haraph hak raa roozo shab khhaana(n)dh shaan || 141 ||

And, they are absorbed in the meditation of Naam of Waaheguru day and night. (141)

How much can I praise the God's men, the saints and the Mahaatamaas?

az hazaaraan gar yake goim ravaa-sat || 142 ||

It would be just wonderful if I could describe even one of their thousands of virtues. (142)

You, too, should try to find such noble persons (What kind of persons?) who are alive for ever;

dheegaraan muradha(n)dh ieehaan zeesata(n)dh || 143 ||

The rest of them are apparently alive but are just like dead bodies. (143)

ऐ ख़ुशा उमरे कि दर यादश बज़ीसत ॥ १४४ ॥

aai khhushaa umare k dhar yaadhash bazeesat || 144 ||

Only that life is worth living that is spent in remembering the Akaalpurakh. (144)

maradh aariph zi(n)dhaa az iraphaan uoo-sat

The enlightened persons are alive only because of the knowledge of the mysteries of God's attributes;

ਨਿਅਮਤਿ ਹਰ ਦੋ ਜਹਾਣ ਦਰ ਖ਼ਾਨਾਇ ਊ-ਸਤ ॥ ੧੪੫ ॥

निअमति हर दो जहाण दर ख़ानाइ ऊ-सत ॥ १४५ ॥

niamat har dho jahaan dhar khhaanai uoo-sat || 145 ||

(They know) that He has and can shower blessings of both of the worlds in His house. (145)

The main purpose of this life is to (constantly) remember Akaalpurakh;

The saints and prophets live only with this motive. (146)

A mention of them is on every living tongue;

har dho aalam raeh hak jooyaa shudhaa || 147 ||

And, both the worlds are seekers of His path. (147)

Everyone meditates the awe-inspiring splendid Waaheguru,

aai zahe keelo zahe pharakhha(n)dhaa kaal || 148 ||

Only then such a meditation is auspicious and such a discourse propitious. (148)

That is possible only to discourse the Omnipotent. (149)

hasat a(n)dhar suhabat eshaan naseeb || 150 ||

Was blessed through association and the company they kept with the saintly persons. (150)

ਆਣ ਰਵਾ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਦਿਗਰ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰ ਨੀਸਤ

Any such treasure is not acceptable to them, and they do not like any thing other than the truth;

It is not their tradition to speak any words but the words of truth. (151)

In Hindi language, they are called the 'Saadh Sangat',

ईण हमा तारीफ़ि शाण ऐ मौलवीसत ॥ १५२ ॥

e'een hamaa taareeph shaan aai maualaveesat || 152 ||

O Maulvee ! All this is in their praise; and all this defines them. (152)

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਏਸ਼ਾਣ ਬਵਦ ਲੁਤਫ਼ਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ

suhabat eshaan bavadh lutaph khhudhaa

The attainment of their company happens only with His blessings;

ਤਾ ਨਸੀਬਿ ਕਸ ਸ਼ਵਦ ਈਣ ਰੂ-ਨਮਾ ॥ ੧੫੩ ॥

ता नसीबि कस शवद ईण रू-नमा ॥ १५३ ॥

taa naseeb kas shavadh ieen roo-namaa || 153 ||

And, only with His grace, such persons are revealed. (153)

ਹਰ ਕਸੇ ਈਣ ਦੌਲਤਿ ਜਾਵੀਦ ਯਾਫ਼ਤ

हर कसे ईण दौलति जावीद याफ़त

Anyone who is fortunate enough to have obtained this eternal wealth,

ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀਏ ਉਮਰ ਰਾ ਉਮੀਦ ਯਾਫ਼ਤ ॥ ੧੫੪ ॥

ज़िंदगीए उमर रा उमीद याफ़त ॥ १५४ ॥

zi(n)dhage'ee umar raa umeedh yaaphat || 154 ||

One may assume then that he has become full of hope for the duration of his whole life. (154)

ਈਣ ਹਮਾ ਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਵ ਆਣ ਬਾਕੀ ਬਿਦਾਣ

All these, the wealth and the life, are perishable, but they are eternal;

ਜਾਮਿ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਪਾਕ ਰਾ ਸਾਕੀ ਬਿਦਾਣ ॥ ੧੫੫ ॥

jaam ishak paak raa saakee bidhaan || 155 ||

Consider them as bartenders who are serving glasses full of divine devotion. (155)

ਹਰ ਚਿ ਹਸਤ ਅਜ਼ ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਏਸ਼ਾਣ ਬਵਦ

Whatever is seemingly apparent in this world is all because of their company;

ਕਜ਼ ਤਫ਼ੈਲਸ਼ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਆਬਾਦਾ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੫੬ ॥

कज़ तफ़ैलश जुमला आबादा बवद ॥ १५६ ॥

kaz taphailash jumalaa aabaadhaa bavadh || 156 ||

It is their grace that we see all the habitation and prosperity here. (156)

ਈਣ ਹਮਾ ਆਬਾਦੀ ਅਜ਼ ਲੁਤਫ਼ਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਸਤ

e'een hamaa aabaadhee az lutaph khhudhaa-sat

All these habitations (of living beings) are the result of the blessings of Waaheguru;

ग़फलत अज़ वै यक्क नफ़स मरगो जफ़ा सत ॥ १५७ ॥

g(h)falat az vai yak naphas marago japhaa sat || 157 ||

To neglect Him even for one moment is equivalent to pain and death. (157)

To achieve an association with them, the noble persons, is the cornerstone of this life;

zi(n)dhagee ieen zi(n)dhagee ieen ba(n)dhagee-sat || 158 ||

That is life, that is indeed life which is spent in meditating His Naam. (158)

If you wish to become Waaheguru's true devotee,

आरिफ़ि ऊ कामिल मुतलिक शवी ॥ १५९ ॥

aariph uoo kaamil mutalik shavee || 159 ||

Then, you should become knowledgeable and enlightened about the perfect Entity. (159)

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਕੀਮੀਆ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਤੁਰਾ

सुहबति शाण कीमीआ बाशद तुरा

Their company is like a cure-all for you;

ਤਾ ਚਿਹ ਮੀਖ਼ਾਹੀ ਰਵਾ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਤੁਰਾ ॥ ੧੬੦ ॥

ता चिह मीख़ाही रवा बाशद तुरा ॥ १६० ॥

taa cheh meekhhaahee ravaa baashadh turaa || 160 ||

Then, whatever you wish shall be appropriate. (160)

ਈਣ ਹਮਾ ਕੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਜਾਣ ਆਮਦੰਦ

ईण हमा कू साहिबि जाण आमदंद

All this breathing and living world that we see

ਅਜ਼ ਬਰਾਇ ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥ ੧੬੧ ॥

अज़ बराइ सुहबति शाण आमदंद ॥ १६१ ॥

az barai suhabat shaan aamadha(n)dh || 161 ||

Is only because of the company of the noble souls. (161)

ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀਏ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਜ਼ਿਫ਼ੈਜ਼ਿ ਸਹੁਬਤ ਅਸਤ

zi(n)dhage'ee shaan ziphaiz sahubat asat

The existing lives of those living beings is the result of the company of saintly persons;

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਆਇਤਿ ਪੁਰ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਅਸਤ ॥ ੧੬੨ ॥

suhabat shaan aait pur rahimat asat || 162 ||

And, the company of such noble persons is the proof of the kindness and compassion of Akaalpurakh. (162)

ਹਰ ਕਸੇ ਰਾ ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਬਾਇਦਸ਼

हर कसे रा सुहबति शाण बाइदश

Everyone, in fact, needs their company;

ਤਾ ਜ਼ਿ ਦਿਲ ਅਕਦਿ ਗੁਹਰ ਬਿਕੁਸ਼ਾਇਦਸ਼ ॥ ੧੬੩ ॥

ता ज़ि दिल अकदि गुहर बिकुशाइदश ॥ १६३ ॥

taa z dhil akadh guhar bikushaidhash || 163 ||

So that they could unravel the chain of pearls (noble aspects) from their hearts. (163)

ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਗੰਜੀਨਾਈ ਅ ਬੇ-ਖ਼ਬਰ

साहिबि गंजीनाई अ बे-ख़बर

O naive! You are the master of priceless treasure;

lek zaan ga(n)je turaa nabhabavadh khhabar || 164 ||

But alas! You have no realization of that hidden treasure. (164)

How can you find out that invaluable treasure

अंदरूनि कुफ़ल चूँ बाशद मताअ ॥ १६५ ॥

a(n)dharoon kuphal choo(n) baashadh mataa || 165 ||

As to what kind of wealth is hidden inside the vault. (165)

ਪਸ ਤੁਰਾ ਲਾਜ਼ਿਮ ਬਵਦ ਜੂਈ ਕੁਲੀਦ

Therefore, it is essential for you to strive to find the key to the treasure,

taa ba-beenee ga(n)j khhupheeaa raa padheedh || 166 ||

So that you can have a clear realization of this covert, mysterious and valuable repository. (166)

kuphal bikushaa az kuleedh naam hak

You should use the Naam of Waaheguru as the key to open this hidden wealth;

az kitaab ga(n)j makhhaphee khhaan sabak || 167 ||

ईण कुलीदि नाम पेशि शाण बवद

e'een kuleedh naam pesh shaan bavadh

This key is found (only) with the saintly persons,

ਮਰਹਮਿ ਦਿਲਹਾਇ ਰੇਸ਼ੇ ਜਾਣ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੬੮ ॥

मरहमि दिलहाइ रेशे जाण बवद ॥ १६८ ॥

maraham dhilahai reshe jaan bavadh || 168 ||

And, this key serves as the ointment of lacerated hearts and lives. (168)

ਚੂੰ ਕਸੇ ਰਾ ਈਣ ਕੁਲੀਦ ਆਇਦ ਬ-ਦਸਤ

Anyone who can get hold of this key

ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਗੰਜੀਨਾ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਹਰ ਕਿ ਹਸਤ ॥ ੧੬੯ ॥

साहिबि गंजीना बाशद हर कि हसत ॥ १६९ ॥

saahib ga(n)jeenaa baashadh har k hasat || 169 ||

He may be anyone, he can become the master of this treasure. (169)

ਗੰਜ ਰਾ ਚੂੰ ਯਾਫ਼ਤਾ ਜੋਯਾਇ ਗੰਜ

गंज रा चूँ याफ़ता जोयाइ गंज

ga(n)j raa choo(n) yaaphataa joyai ga(n)j

When the seeker of the treasure does find his goal,

ਗਸ਼ਤ ਫ਼ਾਰਿਗ ਅਜ਼ ਹਮਾ ਤਸ਼ਵੀਸ਼ੋ ਰੰਜ ॥ ੧੭੦ ॥

गशत फ़ारिग अज़ हमा तशवीशो रंज ॥ १७० ॥

gashat phaarig az hamaa tashaveesho ra(n)j || 170 ||

Then consider that he has been salvaged from all worries and anxieties. (170)

ਆਣ ਹਮ ਅਜ਼ ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਹੱਕ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਐ ਸ਼ਫ਼ੀਕ

आण हम अज़ मरदानि हक्क शुद ऐ शफ़ीक

aan ham az maradhaan hak shudh aai shapheek

O my friend ! That person has joined the group of (true) devotees of God,

ਆਣ ਕਿ ਰਾਹੇ ਯਾਫ਼ਤ ਦਰ ਕੂਇ ਰਫ਼ੀਕ ॥ ੧੭੧ ॥

आण कि राहे याफ़त दर कूइ रफ़ीक ॥ १७१ ॥

aan k raahe yaaphat dhar kooi rapheek || 171 ||

Who has discovered the direction to the streets of the Beloved Friend. (171)

ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਜ਼ੱਰਾ ਰਾ ਚੂੰ ਮਾਹ ਕਰਦ

सुहबति शाण ज़र्रा रा चूँ माह करद

suhabat shaan zaraa raa choo(n) maeh karadh

Their association transformed an insignificant dust particle to a shining moon.

ਹਰ ਗਦਾ ਰਾ ਸੁਹਬਤਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਕਰਦ ॥ ੧੭੨ ॥

हर गदा रा सुहबति शाण शाह करद ॥ १७२ ॥

har gadhaa raa suhabat shaan shaeh karadh || 172 ||

Again, it was their company that transformed every beggar into a king. (172)

ਰਹਿਮਤਿ ਹੱਕ ਬਾਦ ਬਰ ਔਜ਼ਾਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ

रहिमति हक्क बाद बर औज़ाइ शाण

rahimat hak baadh bar aauazai shaan

May Akaalpurakh bless their disposition with His grace;

ਬਰ ਪਿਦਰ ਬਰ ਮਾਦਰੇ ਇਬਨਾਇ ਸ਼ਾਣ ॥ ੧੭੩ ॥

बर पिदर बर मादरे इबनाइ शाण ॥ १७३ ॥

bar pidhar bar maadhare ibanai shaan || 173 ||

And, also on their parents and children. (173)

ਹਰ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਾਣ ਰਾ ਦੀਦ ਹੱਕ ਰਾ ਦੀਦਾ ਅਸਤ

हर कि शाण रा दीद हक्क रा दीदा असत

har k shaan raa dheedh hak raa dheedhaa asat

Whosoever gets a chance to see them, consider that they have seen the Almighty God;

ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਗੁਲ ਅਜ਼ ਬਾਗ਼ਿ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਚੀਦਾ ਅਸਤ ॥ ੧੭੪ ॥

ख़ुश गुल अज़ बाग़ि मुहब्बत चीदा असत ॥ १७४ ॥

khhush gul az baag(h) muhabat cheedhaa asat || 174 ||

And that he has been able to get a glimpse of a beautiful flower out of the garden of love. (174)

gul z baag(h) maaraphat bara-cheedhan asat

The association with such noble persons is like taking a beautiful flower out of the garden of divine knowledge;
