Everyone, with his zeal for you, started to walk on his head,

And, he was able to pitch his flag over the nine skies,

शुद आमदनश मुबारिक रफ़तन हम

Blessed is his coming to this world, and equally blessed is his departure,

ਗੋਯਾ ਆਣ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਰਾਹਿ ਹੱਕ ਰਾ ਬਿਸ਼ਨਾਖ਼ਤ ॥ ੧ ॥

गोया आण कस कि राहि हक्क रा बिशनाख़त ॥ १ ॥

goyaa aan kas k raeh hak raa bishanaakhhat || 1 ||

Goyaa says, "The one who has perceived the Lord." (1)

ਕੂਰ ਅਸਤ ਹਰ ਆਣ ਦੀਦਾ ਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਰਾ ਨਭਸ਼ਨਾਖ਼ਤ

कूर असत हर आण दीदा कि हक्क रा नभशनाख़त

koor asat har aan dheedhaa k hak raa nabhashanaakhhat

Every such eye that did not recognize (the existence) of Akaalpurakh, can be considered as blind,

e'een umar giraan maayaa ba-g(h)phalat dharabaakhhat

He wasted this precious life in negligence and carelessness,

ਊ ਗਿਰੀਆਣ ਕੁਨਾਣ ਆਮਦ ਬ-ਹਸਰਤ ਮੁਰਦ

ऊ गिरीआण कुनाण आमद ब-हसरत मुरद

uoo gireeaan kunaan aamadh ba-hasarat muradh

He came (to this world) crying and passed away taking all his yearnings and unfulfilled hopes with him,

ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਦਰੀਣ ਆਮਦ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਕਾਰੇ ਨਭਸਾਖ਼ਤ ॥ ੨ ॥

अफ़सोस दरीण आमद शुद कारे नभसाख़त ॥ २ ॥

aphasos dhareen aamadh shudh kaare nabhasaakhhat || 2 ||

Alas! He was unable to better his disposition in this cycle of birth and death. (2)

ਈਣ ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਤੂ ਖ਼ਾਨਾ ਦਾਰਿ ਜਾਨਾਨਸਤ

This eye of yours is the abode of the Beloved virtuous friend,

Your personality is the seat of His royal throne,

Anyone immersed in greed and lust cannot reach the powerful Almighty,

ਕਿ ਈਣ ਰਾਹ ਤਅੱਲਕਿ ਮੰਜ਼ਲਿ ਮਰਦਾਨਸਤ ॥ ੩ ॥

k ieen raeh talak ma(n)zal maradhaanasat || 3 ||

Because this path is meant for the brave and the valiant devotees of Waaheguru. (3)

Every such heart and mind that spontaneously (by acquiring the virtues of) became the divine Beloved,

tahikeek bidhaan k aain jaanaan shudhaa asat

Rest assured! That he became the embodiment of Akaalpurakh Himself,

यक्क ज़र्रा ज़ि फ़ैज़ि रहिमतश ख़ाली नीसत

yak zaraa z phaiz rahimatash khhaalee neesat

Not even a particle of dust is then without his benevolence and blessing,

ਨੱਕਾਸ ਦਰੂਨਿ ਨਕਸ਼ ਪਿਨਹਾਣ ਸ਼ੁਦਾ ਅਸਤ ॥ ੪ ॥

नक्कास दरूनि नकश पिनहाण शुदा असत ॥ ४ ॥

nakaas dharoon nakash pinahaan shudhaa asat || 4 ||

And, the Sculptor-Painter is camouflaging Himself behind His colors. (4)

ਈਣ ਆਮਦੋ ਰਫ਼ਤ ਜੁਜ਼ ਦਮੇ ਬੇਸ਼ ਨਬੂਦ

ईण आमदो रफ़त जुज़ दमे बेश नबूद

e'een aamadho raphat juz dhame besh naboodh

This coming and departing in this world is no more than a moment,

ਹਰ ਜਾ ਕਿ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕੁਨੇਮ ਜੁਜ਼ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼ ਨਬੂਦ

har jaa k nazar kunem juz khhesh naboodh

Wherever we run our vision and see around, we see only our own images,

ਮਾਣ ਜਾਨਿਬਿ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਚੂੰ ਂਨਿਗਾਹ ਬਿਕੁਨੇਮ

maan jaanib g(h)air choo(n) (n)nigaeh bikunem

How can we ever dare to look towards anyone else?

ਚੂੰ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਤੂ ਹੀਚ ਕਸੇ ਪਸੋ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਬੂਦ ॥ ੫ ॥

चूँ ग़ैर तू हीच कसे पसो पेश नबूद ॥ ५ ॥

choo(n) g(h)air too heech kase paso pesh naboodh || 5 ||

Because, there is no one else (except Waaheguru) in the front or rear who is supporting us. (5)

Every such person who is a seeker of the Divinity,

ਦਰ ਹਰ ਦੋ ਜਹਾਣ ਰੁਤਬਾ-ਅੰਸ਼ ਊਲਾ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ

दर हर दो जहाण रुतबा-अंश ऊला बाशद

dhar har dho jahaan rutabaa-a(n)sh uoolaa baashadh

Has a highest rank and status in both the worlds;

ਗੋਯਾ ਦੋ ਜਹਾਣ ਰਾ ਬ-ਜੌਏ ਬਿ-ਸਤਾਨੰਦ

गोया दो जहाण रा ब-जौए बि-सतानंद

goyaa dho jahaan raa ba-jaue bi-sataana(n)dh

Goyaa says, "They can acquire both the worlds in exchange for just a grain of barley,

ਮਜਨੂੰਨਿ ਤੂ ਕੈ ਆਸ਼ਕਿ ਲੈਲਾ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ॥ ੬ ॥

मजनूँनि तू कै आशकि लैला बाशद ॥ ६ ॥

majanoo(n)n too kai aashak lailaa baashadh || 6 ||

When and how would I, Your beloved (like Majnoo was) become Your lover (like Lailaa)"? (6)

ਦਰ ਦਹਿਰ ਕਿ ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਆਮਦਾ ਅੰਦ

दर दहिर कि मरदानि ख़ुदा आमदा अंद

dhar dhahir k maradhaan khhudhaa aamadhaa a(n)dh

When men of God manifest themselves in this world,

ਬਰ ਗ਼ੁਮ-ਸ਼ੁਦਗਾਨਿ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾ ਆਮਦਾ ਅੰਦ

बर ग़ुम-शुदगानि रहिनुमा आमदा अंद

bar g(h)uma-shudhagaan rahinumaa aamadhaa a(n)dh

They come as leaders to put the strayed people on to the right path;

ਗੋਯਾ ਅਗਰ ਈਂ ਚਸ਼ਮਿ ਤੂ ਮੁਸ਼ਤਾਕਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਅਸਤ

गोया अगर ईं चशमि तू मुशताकि ख़ुदा असत

goyaa agar iee(n) chasham too mushataak khhudhaa asat

Goyaa says, "If your eye is desirous of the Almighty,

ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ-ਨੁਮਾ ਆਮਦਾ ਅੰਦ ॥ ੭ ॥

मरदानि ख़ुदा ख़ुदा-नुमा आमदा अंद ॥ ७ ॥

maradhaan khhudhaa khhudhaa-numaa aamadhaa a(n)dh || 7 ||

Then realize that the noble souls of God come to this earth only to reveal Him." (7)

ਦਰ ਮਜ਼ਹਬਿ ਮਾ ਗ਼ੈਰ-ਪਰਸਤੀ ਨ ਕੁਨੰਦ

दर मज़हबि मा ग़ैर-परसती न कुनंद

dhar mazahab maa g(h)aira-parasatee na kuna(n)dh

People of our faith do not worship anyone else (other than Akaalpurakh),

ਸਰ ਤਾ ਬਕਦਮ ਬਹੋਸ਼ ਓ ਮਸਤੀ ਨ ਕੁਨੰਦ

सर ता बकदम बहोश ओ मसती न कुनंद

sar taa bakadham bahosh o masatee na kuna(n)dh

They are always mindful and alert and never act or behave wantonly,

ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲਿ ਨਸ਼ਵੰਦ ਯਕ ਦਮ ਅਜ਼ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ

ग़ाफ़लि नशवंद यक दम अज़ यादि ख़ुदा

g(h)aaphal nashava(n)dh yak dham az yaadh khhudhaa

They are not negligent of the remembrance of Waaheguru even for one moment/breath,

ਦੀਗਰ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਅਜ਼ ਬੁਲੰਦੋ ਪਸਤੀ ਨ ਕੁਨੰਦ ॥ ੮ ॥

दीगर सुख़न अज़ बुलंदो पसती न कुनंद ॥ ८ ॥

dheegar sukhhan az bula(n)dho pasatee na kuna(n)dh || 8 ||

Additionally, they do not get involved in topics relating to higher or lower classes of the society. (8)

ਯੱਕ ਜ਼ੱਰਾ ਅਗਰ ਸ਼ੌਕਿ ਇਲਾਹੀ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ

यक्क ज़र्रा अगर शौकि इलाही बाशद

yak zaraa agar shauak ilaahee baashadh

If one has even the slightest inkling of fondness for the Lord,

ਬਿਹਤਰ ਕਿ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ

बिहतर कि हज़ार बादशाही बाशद

bihatar k hazaar baadhashaahee baashadh

Then, that is far superior to thousands of kingdoms,

ਗੋਯਾ-ਸਤ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮਿ ਮੁਰਸ਼ਦਿ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼

गोया-सत ग़ुलामि मुरशदि ख़ेश

goyaa-sat g(h)ulaam murashadh khhesh

Goyaa says, "I am the slave of my true Guru,

ਈਣ ਖ਼ਤ ਨ ਮੁਹਤਾਜਿ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ॥ ੯ ॥

ईण ख़त न मुहताजि गवाही बाशद ॥ ९ ॥

e'een khhat na muhataaj gavaahee baashadh || 9 ||

And this written assertion does not need any witnesses." (9)

ਹਰ ਕਸ ਬ-ਜਹਾ ਨਸ਼ਵੋ ਨੁਮਾ ਮੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਦ

हर कस ब-जहा नशवो नुमा मी ख़ाहद

har kas ba-jahaa nashavo numaa mee khhaahadh

Every human being in this world likes to progressively prosper and professionally advance,

ਅਸਪੋ ਸ਼ੁਤਰੋ ਫ਼ੀਲੋ ਤਿਲਾ ਮੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਦ

असपो शुतरो फ़ीलो तिला मी ख़ाहद

asapo shutaro pheelo tilaa mee khhaahadh

He/She has strong desire to acquire horses, camels, elephants and gold;

ਹਰ ਕਸ ਜ਼ਿ ਬਰਾਇ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼ ਚੀਜ਼ੇ ਮੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਦ

हर कस ज़ि बराइ ख़ेश चीज़े मी ख़ाहद

har kas z barai khhesh cheeze mee khhaahadh

Every one always longs to have something or the other for himself;

ਗੋਯਾ ਜ਼ਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਯਾਦਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਮੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਦ ॥ ੧੦ ॥

गोया ज़ि ख़ुदा यादि ख़ुदा मी ख़ाहद ॥ १० ॥

goyaa z khhudhaa yaadh khhudhaa mee khhaahadh || 10 ||

However, Goyaa says, "I always supplicate to the Lord to bless me only with His remembrance." (10)

ਪੁਰ ਗਸ਼ਤਾ ਜ਼ਿ ਸਰ ਤਾ ਬ-ਕਦਮ ਨੂਰ-ਉਲ-ਨੂਰ

पुर गशता ज़ि सर ता ब-कदम नूर-उल-नूर

pur gashataa z sar taa ba-kadham noora-aula-noor

Goyaa says that His Guru is satiated with radiance and splendor from head to feet;

ਆਈਨਾ ਕਿ ਦਰ ਵੈਨ ਬਵਦ ਹੀਚ ਕਸੂਰ

आईना कि दर वैन बवद हीच कसूर

He is a mirror that has no cracks;

ਤਹਿਕੀਕ ਬਿਦਾਣ ਜ਼ਿ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲਾਣ ਦੂਰ ਬਵਦ

तहिकीक बिदाण ज़ि ग़ाफ़िलाण दूर बवद

tahikeek bidhaan z g(h)aaphilaan dhoor bavadh

Rest assured: That he shuns away from the careless and the negligent;

ਊ ਦਰ ਦਿਲਿ ਆਰਿਫ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਜ਼ਹੂਰ ॥ ੧੧ ॥

ऊ दर दिलि आरिफ़ करदा ज़हूर ॥ ११ ॥

uoo dhar dhil aariph karadhaa zahoor || 11 ||

And he manifests only in the hearts of holy and pious persons. (11)

This priceless life that is wasted for nothing,

ਈਣ ਖ਼ਾਨਾਇ ਵੀਰਾਣ ਬ-ਚਿਹ ਆਬਾਦ ਸ਼ਵਦ

ईण ख़ानाइ वीराण ब-चिह आबाद शवद

e'een khhaanai veeraan ba-cheh aabaadh shavadh

And how can this desolate home be rehabilitated and settled?

ਤਾ ਮੁਰਸ਼ਦਿ ਕਾਮਿਲ ਨਦਿਹਦ ਦਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ

ता मुरशदि कामिल नदिहद दसत ब्रहम

taa murashadh kaamil nadhihadh dhasat braham

Goyaa says, "(This can happen) Only when a complete Guru stands by your side and helps; And this may be the only way that

ਗੋਯਾ ਦਿਲਿ ਗ਼ਮਗੀਨ ਤੂ ਚੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਦ ਬਵਦ ॥ ੧੨ ॥

गोया दिलि ग़मगीन तू चूँ शाद बवद ॥ १२ ॥

goyaa dhil g(h)mageen too choo(n) shaadh bavadh || 12 ||

My heart filled with worries and griefs can be elevated to elation"? (12)

ਦਿਲਿ ਜ਼ਾਲਮਿ ਬ-ਕਸਦਿ ਕੁਸ਼ਤਨਿ ਮਾ-ਸਤ

दिलि ज़ालमि ब-कसदि कुशतनि मा-सत

dhil zaalam ba-kasadh kushatan maa-sat

The fiendish has the intention to destroy us,

ਦਿਲਿ ਮਜ਼ਲੂਮਿ ਮਨ ਬਸੂਇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਸਤ

दिलि मज़लूमि मन बसूइ ख़ुदा सत

dhil mazaloom man basooi khhudhaa sat

On the other hand, my vulnerable mind is expecting help and relief from the Almighty;

The brute is concerned as to what should He do with him?

ਮਾ ਦਰੀਣ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਤਾ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਚਿਹ ਕੁਨਦ ॥ ੧੩ ॥

मा दरीण फ़िकर ता ख़ुदा चिह कुनद ॥ १३ ॥

maa dhareen phikar taa khhudhaa cheh kunadh || 13 ||

And, we are concerned as to how does the Almighty respond to our plea? (13)

What did we gain from this priceless life?

dhar har dho-jahaan yaadh khhudhaa yaaphataa em

We were able to achieve the remembrance of the Omnipotent in both the worlds;

e'een hasate'ee khheshatan balaa boodh azeem

This personality of ours was a huge monster,

ਅਜ਼ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼ ਗੁਜ਼ਸ਼ਤੇਮ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਯਾਫ਼ਤਾ ਏਮ ॥ ੧੪ ॥

अज़ ख़ेश गुज़शतेम ख़ुदा याफ़ता एम ॥ १४ ॥

az khhesh guzashatem khhudhaa yaaphataa em || 14 ||

When we gave up our ego and vanity, we attained the Ultimate, the Lord. (14)

ਅਜ਼ ਖ਼ਾਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਤੂ ਤੂਤੀਆ ਯਾਫ਼ਤਾਏਮ

dhar khhaanai dhil nakash khhudhaa yaaphataaem || 15 ||

We have discovered the symptoms of the Omnipresent within the abode of our heart. (15)

That sometimes becomes so essential and other times so assigned?

How long are we going to fight over bones like dogs ?

ਦੁਨਿਆ ਮਾਲੂਅਮ ਅਹਿਲਿ ਦੁਨਿਆ ਮਾਲੂਅਮ ॥ ੧੭ ॥

दुनिआ मालूअम अहिलि दुनिआ मालूअम ॥ १७ ॥

dhuniaa maalooam ahil dhuniaa maalooam || 17 ||

We all know about this world and these worldly people, (how selfish and merciless they are)." (17)

If you are trying to shun away from the sin of your greed and lust and have the stomach for meidtation?

ਜ਼ੀਣ ਦੀਦਾ ਮਬੀਣ ਕਿ ਹਜ਼ਾਬ ਸਤ ਤੁਰਾ

ज़ीण दीदा मबीण कि हज़ाब सत तुरा

zeen dheedhaa mabeen k hazaab sat turaa

Then you should not see with these overt and ostensible eyes, because they are the obstacle for you;

ਬੇ-ਦੀਦਾ ਬਿਬੀਣ ਹਰ ਆਣ ਚਿਹ ਦੀਦਨ ਦਾਰੀ ॥ ੧੮ ॥

बे-दीदा बिबीण हर आण चिह दीदन दारी ॥ १८ ॥

be-dheedhaa bibeen har aan cheh dheedhan dhaaree || 18 ||

In fact, you should try to introspect without your eyes whatever you want to see. (And you would be successful)" (18)

Akaalpurakh is Omnipresent. Then whom are you searching for?

A meeting with the Benevolent is the aim of our life; where are you straying?

Both these worlds are the symbols of your mastery and control;

ਯਾਅਨੀ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਅਜ਼ ਜ਼ਬਾਨਿ ਹੱਕ ਮੀ ਗੋਈ ॥ ੧੯ ॥

याअनी सुख़न अज़ ज़बानि हक्क मी गोई ॥ १९ ॥

yaanee sukhhan az zabaan hak mee goiee || 19 ||

That is, you are speaking the word of God through your own tongue. (19)

ਮਬਰ ਐ ਬਾਦ ਖ਼ਾਕਮ ਅਜ਼ ਦਰਿ ਦੂਸਤ

मबर ऐ बाद ख़ाकम अज़ दरि दूसत

O wind! Do not blow away my dust from the door of my Beloved,

ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨਮ ਸਰਜ਼ਨਸ਼ ਕੁਨਦ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਜਾਈਸਤ ॥ ੧ ॥

दुशमनम सरज़नश कुनद कि हर जाईसत ॥ १ ॥

dhushamanam sarazanash kunadh k har jaieesat || 1 ||

Otherwise, the adversary will slander (the claim) that He happens to be everywhere. (1)

ਨੀਸਤ ਗ਼ੈਰ ਅਜ਼ ਆਣ ਸਨਮ ਦਰ ਪਰਦਾਇ ਦੈਰੋ ਹਰਮ

नीसत ग़ैर अज़ आण सनम दर परदाइ दैरो हरम

neesat g(h)air az aan sanam dhar paradhai dhairo haram

There is no one else other than the Waaheguru inside Kaabaa or the temple;

कै बवद आतिशि दो रंग अज़ इख़तलाफ़ि संग हा ॥ २ ॥

kai bavadh aatish dho ra(n)g az ikhhatalaaph sa(n)g haa || 2 ||

How can the fire assume two different colors due to differences in the basic structure and make-up of stones? (2)

aasamaan sijadhaa kunadh pesh zameen k bar uoo

The sky is bowing before the earth,

ਯੱਕ ਦੋ ਨਫ਼ਸ ਅਜ਼ ਪੈਏ ਜ਼ਿਕਰਿ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਬਿਨਸ਼ੀਨੰਦ ॥ ੩ ॥

यक्क दो नफ़स अज़ पैए ज़िकरि ख़ुदा बिनशीनंद ॥ ३ ॥

yak dho naphas az paie zikar khhudhaa binasheena(n)dh || 3 ||

Because of the fact, devotees of Akaalpurakh squat here for a moment or two in His meditation. (3)

ਬਜ਼ੇਰਿ ਸਾਇਆਇ ਤੂਬਾ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਹਾ ਯਾਬੀ

बज़ेरि साइआइ तूबा मुराद हा याबी

Under the shade of Kalap tree, one can have all his wishes fulfilled,

ਬਜ਼ੇਰ ਸਾਇਆ ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਹੱਕ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਯਾਬੀ ॥ ੪ ॥

बज़ेर साइआ मरदानि हक्क ख़ुदा याबी ॥ ४ ॥

bazer saiaa maradhaan hak khhudhaa yaabee || 4 ||

However, under the shade (protection) of men of God, the saintly persons, one can attain God Himself. (4)
